lakes and bugs and boats, oh my!

Still at the lake, still loving this fauxcation of mine. My entire immediate family is now out at the cabin, and we’re just waiting for the influx of extended family to start arriving this afternoon and evening. Yesterday it was just me and my dad, my aunt and uncle, my cousin and his two kids, and my aunt from Saskatchewan. The eight of us had some laughs, looked at old photographs, had some drinks, and went on a sunset boat cruise around the lake. The scenery is gorgeous.

I swear, I’m going to go back to work and no one will believe me that I was at a memorial service this week, I’ll be so tanned. Tomorrow is the big event, with everyone gathered around and a dinner afterwards. It’s a great opportunity to get some closure on the death, though.

It’s also nice to escape the city sometimes. Don’t get me wrong, I love Edmonton dearly and it will always have a piece of my heart. But in the middle of the heatwave, there’s nothing like being on a body of water. Water’s relaxing, calming, soothing. Although I wish I could go for a nice long swim; thanks to the open wound that is my nose piercing, putting my face in the water is a strict no-no. It’s not encouraged to go swimming in pools until 8 weeks (minimum) post-piercing, so I can’t imagine that it’s a good idea to hop into a lake with the bacteria, algae, fish poop, etc.

And getting away from everything right now feels great. This is the most relaxed I’ve been since Thomas and I decided to move back to Calgary. There are still details to be hammered out, but the bulk of the arrangements have been made. Now we just have to pack (ugh) and load up the truck in a couple of weeks and get ourselves all moved in! I can’t wait to start decorating…

I have been checking work emails a couple times a day, just to make sure I’m not too far behind the eight ball when I get back. Is this what being an adult is? Going on “vacation” but never leaving the digital office? If it is, it sucks. And the crazy thing is that no one is asking me to do this, I just decided that it would be a great idea on my own. What the hell is wrong with me?

But honestly, you can’t beat the office view:
