Apologies for the novel-length title, but there’s no other way to try and cover everything that went down this weekend
SO. This weekend! I figured I’d write about and deconstruct the events in the order listed above.
Sonic Boom:
I was looking forward to this concert for months because I’d never been able to go to the festival in the past few years. Either RA training (resident adviser — I worked for the university for two years) or living in Calgary got in the way. I picked up my tickets in Edmonton before I realized I’d be moving back to Calgary and that the same line up is at XFest. Oh well.
The line up was alright, but nothing jaw-dropping. My favourite band, Incubus, canceled their performance because Brandon Boyd is sick with something that’s not allowing him to sing. Boo. So the reason I was going was no longer playing. I enjoyed watching Fun., Mute Math, and Young the Giant though. And yes, despite being there from 1:30-8:00pm, those are the only acts I saw. I spent the rest of my time there waiting in line. Waiting in line to get to the bathrooms. Waiting in line to get some food. Waiting in line to get a drink. I think I spent more time in line than I did enjoying the music! And for $95 tickets plus money for aforementioned food and drinks, that felt pretty ridiculous.
The infrastructure around the festival can’t support the crowds anymore. There’s just not enough of anything, really, to facilitate anyone having a good time the whole time.
Pretty sure I wouldn’t go again.
Oh, and dancing/walking/standing for all that time meant my foot was THROBBING by the end of the night, and I didn’t even get to see the Silversun Pickups or Linkin Park because I needed to go home ASAP and wrap/ice it. Ugh.
Edmonton:
Not going to lie, it was nice to be back in the city with my family. We all went out for drinks on Friday night (I drove right to the bar) and celebrated some exciting news from my cousin (good work news!). My dad drove us back home so I could enjoy the evening without drinking and driving, and we went back to the club on Saturday morning to pick up the car.
Saturday passed in a blur. David was in town, since he was flying out of Edmonton back home after working in a small Alberta town most of the week. We chilled, and he got me hopelessly addicted to Plague, Inc. I’ve gotten scary-good at destroying the world with biohazards.
Sunday was Sonic Boom. See above.
Monday I ran some errands (gas, bank, returned some jeans to American Eagle because they fit funny), and then met Sarah for tea at the mall. PS — great to see you! Then it was time for the Labour Day Classic, and unfortunately my team lost. Boo. I had dinner with the family and our friends who came over to watch football, had a great conversation with my aunt, and then hit the road back to Calgary at about 6pm.
Family:
This seems like a silly heading, since I just described everything above. Oops! Again, it was great to see them.
A very short long weekend:
Overall, this “long” weekend just flew by, and I’m wondering when there will be a break in my life to rest and recharge! I’ve been running on empty for months now and I don’t know how much longer this will last without some serious repercussions.
Sadly, I don’t think I’ll get any solid time off until the week between Christmas and New Years when my office is closed. I’ll just have to find a way to make everything work until then!

It was awesome to see you too! Good luck with the new stuff coming your way.
Gracias! Might need it lol.
