Slowly, but surely. That’s what I keep telling myself. Getting back into the swing of blogging will be a slow and sure process. I’m feeling more adjusted and comfortable at my job now, so it’s a great time to stretch my writing muscles when I get home — I no longer wish to avoid the computer at all costs when I get in the door.
So, it’s been awhile since my last entry (to state the obvious) but before I get into the heavy stuff: PENGUINS!

Seriously, how freaking cute are penguins? The Calgary Zoo has a new penguin exhibit and they’re the first thing you seen inside the entrance now. When Thomas and I went back in August (holy crap), I squeaked a little, then ran over to see them in all their tuxedo goodness.

Dammit I have tiny feet. Even compared to a penguin.
Now for the heavier stuff.
I left my job September 7 and started at the new place September 10. So, I’ve been there almost one whole month (!!!) and I love it. It’s fantastic, and it’s such a strange feeling to think that I’m the right person, in the right place, with the right skills, at the right time. I’m not used to getting it so completely right.
In other words, hurray for me.
Second bomb:
Thomas is not at his job anymore. This is a fairly recent development and I hesitate to go into too much detail, but suffice to say the crazy hours and no-days-off days are over for the time being. I’m so excited to have him home more, and he thinks he has a good lead on a new place to apply, one with better hours and pay. So our house should be okay too, but if not I can support us for a little while at least.
Stress, stress, stress — but in a good way. It’s hard for me to accept change all at once, and as per usual, it feels like everything is changing all at once. But we’re going to be just fine. This is a good push for us both to do more of what we want to do for the rest of our lives instead of subsisting on what we have.
I’m also planning to try a gluten-free diet for two weeks, to see if there’s any correlation between my stomach issues of the past/present, and a gluten intolerance. It wouldn’t surprise me, as it’s common in people of my heritage (German/northern Europe) and my uncle has full-blown Celiac as well. I’m going to miss beer and bread (read: German heritage) for the next couple of weeks (I’m starting the diet October 1) but it’s worth it to see if that might be the cause. I’d rather streamline my eating for a few weeks and then have some wheat, than always be questioning what could be making me feel like shit, know what I mean?
Last note: It’s FALL. I love fall. And crunchy leaves.

PENGUINS! *SQUEE* Who can’t love penguins? I’m glad you’re settling into a nice rhythm, and I’m happy Thomas is looking for a career rather than a job that just stresses him out.
Yeah, long term it’s a good thing for sure. I just hope he doesn’t let short term stress eat him alive
.
I love penguins too!
I hope Thomas is able to find a job soon to help relieve some of your stress. <3 As for the gluten free living, I've considered it as well since I have a lot of stomach issues. Udi's makes really tasty gluten free bread. Sold at whole foods and online.
AND there are gluten free beers on the market! (I have a friend with Celiac and she thought she could never have beer again, but she found a couple gluten free options. lol)
Who doesn’t love penguins?!? And I’ve heard of some of the GF beers thank goodness for them lol. It’s still going to be a tough week. Lots of alternatives but they’re expensive and not in the grocery store nearby. I’ll have to care enough to drive and get stuff lol.
Oh my word! Those Penguins are just too cute! I may have squee’d when I saw those pictures!
Glad you like your new job, and I hope Thomas finds a new (better) job soon!
Thanks! And thanks for stopping by
I love Penguins!!!!!!
second to Pandas. Awesome that you’re enjoying your new job. I think I’m looking for a new one as well
good luck on your gluten free!
Good luck on the job hunt! It’s not always fun, but it’s nice to have one you enjoy
