delicious baked potato soup

I don’t think I’ll ever cross the line into food blogging, because let’s face it: I really can’t cook. But, I made some really tasty baked potato soup in March and now that it’s gross and rainy in Calgary, I think I’m going to make another batch tonight.

It was 8*C (EIGHT DEGREES!) when I was getting to work this morning. That should not be allowed in August, in my opinion.

So it looks like I’ll be breaking the grocery budget by stopping for more ingredients on the way home tonight. I’m missing chicken stock, celery, cauliflower, carrots, sour cream and chives. So, about half of what I need (or more) is at home. No wonder we eat out so often…

This weekend may be interesting. The “mouse” status in our house has officially been upgraded to “mice.” The cats went apeshit at the door to the utility room last night (prompting me to stuff a towel into the crack) and Thomas confirmed the presence of a mouse trap in there, along with reporting back that he heard them rustling around. I don’t want to be inhumane about it, but I also don’t want mice living in my house…they gotta go! I’m torn between buying safe traps and releasing them in the park a few blocks from my house, or opening the door and letting the cats have at it. Leaning more towards the second, because I don’t know if I’ll get them all but I’ll know from the reaction of the cats if they’ve gotten them all.

Aside from a couple of birthday parties, I’m looking forward to largely staying in this weekend. I want to start nesting (funny, that’s probably what the mice are doing!) into the new place. You know, getting photos on the walls, cleaning out the little nooks and crannies, getting the boxes unpacked or put into storage (you know the stuff you have no every day use for, but just can’t seem to throw away? That stuff). I’m starting to look at vanities, because right now I’m just using my dresser and it’s not quite functional anymore. I really like this one, but it’s omg! three! hundred! dollars! I’m not making the big bucks yet ;)

I’ll also hopefully take a butt-load of photos and toy around with Photoshop and Flickr. Then, I’ll be putting in some overtime on Sunday to help the CEO finish a project (which, I hate to say it, makes me feel pretty uber-important!).

What are your plans?
