The moving is almost done! THERE, I’VE SAID IT. I’ve made the declaration to the Internet that my house is almost in a presentable state, so it must be true.

My living room no longer looks like this, yay! The lamp is even hanging from the roof. I am that awesome at unpacking.
There’s only one room that’s still a disaster area (my table-less dining room area notwithstanding, because that will look terrible until we get a table/chairs in there), and that’s the office downstairs. Thomas’ pseudo-mancave. There’s big bright windows, so the room can’t quite pull off the “cave” moniker, but all his computer/gaming equipment is set up in the spare room.
Personally, I can’t wait to get a vacuum in there. We weren’t able to have the carpets cleaned before we moved in, because the power wasn’t on until that weekend and the company I hired to do it seriously dropped the ball, so I’m almost at the point where I want to take a toothbrush and start scrubbing it out myself. The previous tenants definitely had a cat, so in addition to our two furry beasts, there’s already hair in the carpet. Sigh.
Can I also just say how much I’m loving this location? The house isn’t perfect (there are some stains on the stairs, holes in the drywall, etc.) but it’s so spacious. There’s room for the four of us to exist comfortably! And the location can’t be beat; I can walk anywhere I like.
Not to mention the other tenants are awesome. My friend K lives in one, her sister W lives in another, and there are long-term tenants in the other unit who seem like a riot. We’re planning things left right and centre because it’s just so damn easy to pop over to K’s and have a glass of wine after work. W is more than welcome to come hang out at my place (and I told her as such). In all seriousness, and I don’t want to jinx it, this is fan-freaking-tastic so far. The three of us are already planning to go to the local restaurant on Thursday for their half-price wine night. YES.
I will be even happier after we’re settled and done with it all. It’s so close, I can taste it.
In other news, there was a wicked hailstorm in Calgary on Sunday night. It was crazy-hailing from about 10-11pm, and guess where Thomas and I were? Smack dab in the middle of a hot tub on the north side of the city (the hardest hit, of course). We went to Thomas’ sister’s house for dinner and a tub (note to self: do not scarf down three slices of pizza, then wear a bikini. Durr.) and we were all floating out there when the storm hit. E, his sister, and I bowed out after the hail got to be about the size of dimes, but Thomas, his brother-in-law, and his nephew stayed out in the hail to see if they could “beat nature.” (Seriously.) They were screaming at us to take pictures. Quite the sight (we didn’t take pictures — you think I’m taking my camera out into that nonsense? Some of the hail pieces were as big as the lens). Eventually the hail got so big, they were forced to take towels from the railing and put them over their heads so no one was concussed (while I sat inside wondering why they wouldn’t want a solid roof. Roof > towel).
Never a dull moment in Calgary, I tell you.
