I am the master of klutz

So one of two things happened today. I either broke a small bone on the side of my foot, or a found a way to sprain (not break) something in the side of my foot.

Yes, you heard that right, not my ankle, but my foot.

And it all started with a box.

I was taking out an empty box that had once housed the wine hutch Thomas bought me for my birthday. It had been sitting in our living room, obstructing the small hall between the kitchen/dining room and the living space, just taking up room. Today I decided I’d had enough of its shenanigans and it was time for it to leave.

I went to pick up the box, and awkwardly ran my finger down the edge side to try to find a good grip. Instant and deep paper cut. I cursed a little, then ran downstairs to watch off the cut and throw a bandaid on it, all the while watching the clock because I was set to meet friends at 11am for breakfast before seeing “Singing in the Rain” (which was amazing).

Back upstairs, back to the box (which is about 2/3 as big as I am, but empty). I manage to get it down the half flight of stairs and out the door. Then, just to set the scene: there are two units on either side of the fourplex. Me and W share one side, K and the other tenants on the other. W and I have these huge 3+ inch landings in front of our doors, then sidewalk running down the side of the house. I took my box down my landing, down the sidewalk, then walked up onto W’s landing to continue to the back alley where my car is parked.

I stepped off W’s landing and missed the sidewalk, with half my foot on and half a half-inch down, so I rolled my foot and fell to the ground. Thank god I didn’t slam my head on the fence right beside us, but I hit the dirt hard. Tried to laugh it off, walk it off, and when W came out to see if I was okay (yes, W, *not* Thomas, who was home at the time…) I said yes and continued on my day, feeling silly.

Pain did not go away. I was limping all over the place and had to answer the awkward “Are you okay?” questions.

It’s gotten worse throughout the day, and is now near impossible to walk on like a normal human being.

the side of my foot might be broken or sprained

So I went to the Medicentre to get checked out. And sure enough, it’s either a sprain or some useless bone in the side of my foot is broken and will likely never heal the same. AWESOME.

This is what it looked like after walking/hobbling on it all day:

I'm pretty sure I broke my foot falling off the sidewalk. Like a bau5

When I was in Grade 6, I broke my foot skating without hitting the ice by falling down the stairs and getting my skate caught between two of them.

Today I literally fell off the sidewalk and may have broken my foot again. THE SAME FOOT.

I am the epitome of grace. I’d just like to make that known.

  1. All hail to the masters of being klutzes! I, too, am a major klutz. I severely sprained an ankle in 2003 by falling out of bed and broke my foot in 2000 and I have no idea how I did it. :/ My foot didn’t bruise or swell when I broke it, but my ankle and foot looked a lot like yours when I did the severe sprain. :/

Hope it starts feeling better soon!

    • Thanks! Appreciate it :) And I’m also glad to know I’m not alone (but bummed that you’ve been hurt like that!)

The doctor phoned this morning and told me it’s not broken, so it’s muscle damage or a sprain. Whatever the case may be, no cast! YAY!

Oh my gosh. You poor poor thing!!!!! I hope it heals up at least close to normal. Just stay off of it and eat tasty snacks to make yourself feel better. Geesh woman.
