Calgary weather can be…fickle. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but oh my goodness this can get old sometimes.
It’s a full-on snowstorm and we’re trapped inside the house, though I’m not complaining; I have snoring cats, heat, coffee, and a wonderful boyfriend who helped me prepare a delicious salmon lunch. NOM.
It’s been a lazy kind of Sunday. Thanks to the snow, I want nothing to do with the outside world, and that includes getting dressed apparently. I may shower at some point, but I’m disinclined to make any promises.
It’s not how I pictured my weekend. I thought I’d be a lot more productive than pinning a million things, hanging out on Twitter, and playing WoW. But if that’s what I need to do to relax and unwind, then so be it. It’s been one of those months, and I still feel squarely in the middle of a self-indulgence phase.
Once we’re out of the white, I’m hoping I can get over to the gym this week to start that 5k training. I considered dropping out of the race in June, but that’s just postponing the inevitable. I don’t need to be excellent at everything, or rock the first time. I think a healthy goal for this first race is simply to finish. I want to hit the finish line and feel that rush of accomplishment. So there’s no sense in delaying that!
Braces are going well (you didn’t think I’d be able to post an update without mentioning them, did you?) — I got the brackets repaired on Friday, and so far no others have made a desperate bid for freedom from the wire. The Friday appointment turned out to be a bit of a gong show too. The woman assisting the orthodontist ended up forgetting to place my bottom wire back on after the bracket was glued; she only snapped the wire into that one bracket! As I was driving, I noticed something felt different, and then saw the rogue wire in the mirror. I ended up having to drive back and get her to snap the rest of the brackets back on.
She also told me I had a lot of saliva. …Um, thanks? I had no idea how to respond to that, especially since her hands were in my mouth (and spreading that saliva onto my face — thanks chick, at least you were wearing gloves!) so I told her I was part Great Dane and laughed it off.
Yesterday I went shopping with my friend Kaila and picked up Thomas’ anniversary present. He’s been known to occasionally pop by, so I won’t reveal what it is, but I’m fairly sure he’s going to love it. <3 I also spent some money on myself: $32 at Sephora. It’s not a lot, but it’s a start and it’s two things that were pure self-indulgence. Hand cream (and it smells AMAZING) and hair product. It felt good to do something like that for no particular reason, and knowing that I could afford it.
