about the author

Writing about myself is always an exercise-and-a-half.

I’m Kylie, otherwise known online as kayjer (a nickname I picked up in fifth grade). I’m 23, and I live with my boyfriend Thomas and our two cats. Our little townhouse in Edmonton, Alta. may not look like much, but we have a happy life together here. I’m a platform diver, amateur yogi, tea-drinking, salty-snack-obsessed, co-ordinationally-challenged 5’3″ firecracker. You’ve been sufficiently warned!

I graduated university in April 2011, with a degree in journalism. However, I’m not a reporter. I know that reporting is not something I could do long-term, so I ended up gearing my career towards corporate communications. I currently work for a non-profit company and I’m really loving it.

Now that school is over for me (for the time being anyways!) I’m trying to get my post-graduation life happening. I’m rediscovering my love for springboard and platform diving, and finished the Learn to Dive levels for the second time (and the first time as an adult). Basically, this means I can do flips and shit. It’s pretty awesome. I used to dive as a teenager, completed the program, and began training for competitions, but my coach and I didn’t have congruent personalities and I ended up quitting the sport. I wish that I had stuck it out, but it’s never too late to go back!

I try to practice hot yoga once a week as well, since it helps me to relax. The deep stretching also benefits my diving, so it’s a double-win.

Beyond playing/participating in sports, I have a serious love for watching and supporting athletes as well. It’s a dream of mine to work for the Edmonton Oilers, and hopefully one day I can convince them I’m the communications person they need on board.

I laugh a lot. I love my life, and I’m a passionate person. I enjoy a good debate, and am always open to hearing other opinions. I’m intelligent, funny, kind, and spirited. I’m also a Type A person, a born worrywort, and an INFJ personality type. These attributes can make me a not-so-fun person to deal with on occasion, but I’ve been lucky enough to find many wonderful people in my life who are willing to try.

If you want to know anything else, don’t hesitate to contact me! Maybe take a peek inside my bag? Read some archives?

Some of my favourite quotes:

“It is only when you’ve lost everything, that you’re free to do anything.” — Tyler Durden, Fight Club (by Chuck Palahniuk)

“Rice is great when you’re hungry and you want two thousand of something” — Mitch Hedberg, comedian.

“There is an inverse relationship between how much fun something is, and how good it is for you.” — Calvin and Hobbes (by Bill Watterson)

*back scrubbing* “Lower…lower…lower…a LOT lower…TOO low! Mm, lower.” — Zapp Brannigan (from Futurama)

“I don’t want to live forever. I just want to love forever.” — gapingvoid (Hugh MacLeod)

“…do not suffer, I know you’re bold enough, I’ve been around the world and felt your love.” — Red Hot Chili Peppers, Around the World.

“AUTHOR’S NOTE: The following is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental.

Especially you Jenny Beckman.

Bitch.”

&

“Roses are red, violets are blue, fuck you whore.” — 500 Days of Summer

“Think of a rock polisher, one of those drums, goes round and round, rolls twenty-four/seven, full of water and rocks and gravel. Grinding it all up. Round and round. Polishing those ugly rocks into gemstones. That’s the Earth. Why it goes around. We’re the rocks. And what happens to us–the drama and pain and joy and war and sickness and victory and abuse–why, that’s just the water and sand to erode us. Grind us down. To polish us up, nice and bright.” — Chuck Palahniuk, from Haunted.
