I talk about my cats often on my blog (if I were minus a boyfriend I’d definitely be a card-carrying crazy cat lady. I make no qualms about that!), so I thought I’d create a page to introduce them to anyone wondering “Who or what is Lu? Luna?”
My mom, by the way, calls them her grandkitties. So it’s not just me who is crazy about the furry freaks.

First up is Luongo. He came into my life in August 2010, when I moved from the south side of Calgary to living right in the middle of the action on 17th Ave (the famous Red Mile). My former roommate and I picked him out at the SPCA. I remember walking by all the cages and looking at the cats and kittens available for adoption. All the cages were set up as bi-level spaces, where the top level could be used for sleeping and the floor spanned half the cage, then the main floor was used for litter boxes and food. More cages had one cat or two kittens per cage. Then I walked by one…and saw a black-and-white head in the top part of the cage and the bum in the bottom. That was Luongo, and I knew I had to meet this giant cat! He’s still a big guy; about a metre long from nose to tail, and about 15-20 pounds. He’s not a fat guy (we call him chunky) but he’s large and in charge. He lived with my roommate and I in Calgary until June 2011, when we both moved out of the apartment and he came to live with Thomas and myself in Edmonton. He’s a ridiculous cat, very mellow and laid back. Nothing bothers this dude! He loves to sit on laps, and when Thomas and I are both on the couch, he must be touching both of us. He’ll sit on Thomas’ lap…and put his paw on my leg. Or vice versa. He’s a love-y guy.
Then there’s Luna! When Thomas and I moved to Edmonton in the summer of 2011, my cousin’s cat had kittens. They were the cutest little things, and she couldn’t keep them all, so…we ended up taking one. She has so much energy, and we occasionally call her parkour kitty! She runs around the house like someone has lit her tail on fire, with no regard to who might get in the way of her claws…she’s very sweet in her own way, and when she purrs she can shake the whole bed. She’s very vocal and trills/chirps all the time. She also plays fetch (ridiculous!) and is incessant about that game when she gets into it. She loves to be close to people, but not necessarily on them. We pick her up and do what we cal “force snuggles” where we literally have to hold her down and snuggle her against her will. She meows and looks around, but purrs and cuddles too. Her tolerance for cuddling is still quite low, but we’re working on it! She loves hanging out with Lu, he’s her bestest buddy. I’m so glad we took in another cat, because the two keep each other company quite well.

Think you need to update little Luna’s picture! She’s not quite so little anymore!
