It’s been another one of those weekends. I wonder when the chance to sit back and relax will happen upon me?
Probably not until I’m old and retired. Damn.
It’s finally Sunday, so that means a mini-reprieve for today. I only have to head to my parents’ house sometime this afternoon, so that we can book our vacation to Mazatlan! Super freaking excited for that, as I’ve been passing up vacations for the last five years, since I’ve been in university. Well, after payday on Friday, I have a positive bank balance for the first time in a *very* long time and I’ve paid all my bills! I’m also working on a freelance project, and that payment will just be the cherry on the green-coloured number at the end.
I’m stoked. I’m booking a room with my cousin, and she’s one of my favourite people. So much fun!
Friday, I went out with my old friend B and we got some dinner and caught up. We’ve been friends since 10th grade, but haven’t seen each other in awhile. Again, thanks to university, a lot of my friendships back home took a bit of a hit. It was difficult to get back to see everyone with any kind of frequency, and people were really hesitant to make the three hour trip to see me.
Yesterday, I had my diving class, and it felt a bit surreal. I think I’m going to need to start conditioning in the gym during the week, because my muscles were honestly feeling like cooked spaghetti after the warm up (hell, during the warm up). It was disconcerting, because I’ve never really had such an acute sense of weakness. It was kind of scary. I’m going to attribute it to a combination of nutrition (been eating nothing but crap lately) and muscle weakness.
I still managed to pull off a couple of dives (front 1.5 flip, back dive tuck) that I haven’t in awhile (or at all!), and that felt fabulous. The crashes and splashes definitely did not though. Because no one has any idea about diving (I’m assuming) here are a couple of videos. Mine were probably not as smooth, but you get the idea:
To add to that chaotic atmosphere, there was a swim meet in the lap pool right next to the dive tank. It was loud and crazy, with the addition of some many more people than usual. Plus, we had a couple of swimmer watching us dive towards the end of the class, and they were making fun of my buddy because he was a) practicing his moves on the board (which does look a little strange) and b) crashing pretty hard trying to learn a new skill. Excuse me, nine-year-old swimmer asshole, but I’d like to see you try any kind of dive that doesn’t involve throwing yourself off a starters block. As divers, we’re not fast but we can swim. As swimmers, you have no idea what the fuck you’re doing on a diving board. So STFU.
Immediately after diving, I had to rush home, dry my hair, and then get bundled up to go see the CFL game. I had tickets, thanks to my parents, and I took my little cousin. We had a great time, despite the chilly temperatures (about 7-8 degrees, brr!) and I ended up ducking out in the fourth quarter to get home without cramming onto the train like sardines.
Now, as I said, it is relaxing time. I’m going to do a few more blogging-related things first, but then it’s crunch time to get this website content finished for my client (slash friend, hah). It won’t take me too long, but I want to make sure he gets the best possible product from me! So that means a lot of editing and second-guessing.
The cats are tearing around like they’re on kitty-crack, and they’ve found a box in the office that can operate as a tunnel. I do believe this is the best day of their lives.
Who can say no to this??
