getting there

running on the treadmill 5k training

I’m starting to get there! Still going to the gym three times a week with Kaila, and starting to see results.

This was my run from last night:

running on the treadmill 5k trainingWe’re both noticing that we now want to eat ALL THE THINGS all the time. Metabolism must be burning!

I’m up to 2.47 miles, and to reach 5 kilometres, I’ll need to hit 3.11 total. Just a little bit further and I’ll be in line with my goal. I’m planning to run outside when the weather start to cooperate, and that will help my body get used to running on concrete. It’s definitely different than running on the treadmill (read: way harder on concrete).

The last few weeks, as I’ve mentioned a few times, have been difficult. Personally, I’ve been stuck in a negative headspace for awhile, coming up for air for a few days then sinking back down for a few more. Thomas has had his own share of stressors, too. But, we’ve remained strong and together. Stronger together, probably.

We had a lovely date night on Saturday, drinking wine and watching a couple movies. There was a brief interruption when we realized one of the cats (presumably) stepped in the shit of the other, and refused to clean it. We locked the smelly one in the laundry room/cat box room in the hopes that he’d clean his nasty foot, but he just sat patiently and waited to come out.

Eventually we tag-teamed bathing the cat, and hilarity ensued. No one was brutally maimed, and the cat’s lower half was hilariously shrunken and soaked the rest of the night. THEN he made it a point to clean and lick himself all over. TOO LATE, CAT. Don’t worry, he made up for it by drying himself off on my side of the bed after we released him, and were laughing too hard to towel him off properly.

This weekend I intend to go shopping and buy a metric tonne of clothes. I went spring cleaning through my closet and realized that I still have items from high school (graduated 7 years ago, for those wondering). So, it’s safe to say I get some mileage out of my clothes. I don’t see the harm in investing in some new ones. I’m thinking new lululemon sweater, sports bra and pants, plus a plethora of goodies from Old Navy and American Eagle to take with me to Mexico. (Which is only TWO WEEKS AWAY!)

Another run/strength workout tonight (gotta build those knees up), a tattoo consult tomorrow (to finish off my RHCP wrist piece) and then BAM it’s the weekend! What’s everyone else up to?

snowed in

Calgary weather can be…fickle. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but oh my goodness this can get old sometimes.

It’s a full-on snowstorm and we’re trapped inside the house, though I’m not complaining; I have snoring cats, heat, coffee, and a wonderful boyfriend who helped me prepare a delicious salmon lunch. NOM.

It’s been a lazy kind of Sunday. Thanks to the snow, I want nothing to do with the outside world, and that includes getting dressed apparently. I may shower at some point, but I’m disinclined to make any promises.

It’s not how I pictured my weekend. I thought I’d be a lot more productive than pinning a million things, hanging out on Twitter, and playing WoW. But if that’s what I need to do to relax and unwind, then so be it. It’s been one of those months, and I still feel squarely in the middle of a self-indulgence phase.

Once we’re out of the white, I’m hoping I can get over to the gym this week to start that 5k training. I considered dropping out of the race in June, but that’s just postponing the inevitable. I don’t need to be excellent at everything, or rock the first time. I think a healthy goal for this first race is simply to finish. I want to hit the finish line and feel that rush of accomplishment. So there’s no sense in delaying that!

Braces are going well (you didn’t think I’d be able to post an update without mentioning them, did you?) — I got the brackets repaired on Friday, and so far no others have made a desperate bid for freedom from the wire. The Friday appointment turned out to be a bit of a gong show too. The woman assisting the orthodontist ended up forgetting to place my bottom wire back on after the bracket was glued; she only snapped the wire into that one bracket! As I was driving, I noticed something felt different, and then saw the rogue wire in the mirror. I ended up having to drive back and get her to snap the rest of the brackets back on.

She also told me I had a lot of saliva. …Um, thanks? I had no idea how to respond to that, especially since her hands were in my mouth (and spreading that saliva onto my face — thanks chick, at least you were wearing gloves!) so I told her I was part Great Dane and laughed it off.

Yesterday I went shopping with my friend Kaila and picked up Thomas’ anniversary present. He’s been known to occasionally pop by, so I won’t reveal what it is, but I’m fairly sure he’s going to love it. <3 I also spent some money on myself: $32 at Sephora. It’s not a lot, but it’s a start and it’s two things that were pure self-indulgence. Hand cream (and it smells AMAZING) and hair product. It felt good to do something like that for no particular reason, and knowing that I could afford it.
