all up in your head

I’ve written a whole bunch of blog posts in my head, so it’s weird to come to my site and realize that there’s still been nothing new posted since Wednesday

When I start to feel the way I’ve been feeling lately, I live mostly in my head, so this makes sense I suppose.

My friend Kaila and I have been hitting the gym pretty regularly the last week, and it’s been helping. I like getting out and moving, and it’s nice to have a schedule full of things to do from day to day. Not to mention, she’s one of my closest friends and a great trainer! I’m hoping to feel amazing by the time Erin and I go to Mexico on May 9.

Aside from hitting the gym, it’s been mostly work and visiting forums/chatting on Skype with Nonna.

This weekend was pretty spectacular. A friend got last minute tickets to the Calgary Flames game on Friday night, so we met at my place, had dinner and a drink, went to the ‘Dome and cheered on the Flames. Better yet, they even won the game! We had a great time, and then came back to my house and listened to music/danced like idiots and generally were huge goofballs. It’s something I don’t do often enough, and it was fun to just be silly and not care what it might look like.

However, those drinks did me no favours when I hit the gym at 9 the next morning ;) Hitting the treadmill was pretty awful, and I was scoping out the gym to make sure I knew where the nearest garbage can was… Luckily, I held onto my breakfast, and finished the workout too.

After the gym, I met Erin at the mall and we went looking for swimsuits. I found a new top (yay!) and now just need to find a couple new bottoms and I’m good to go. Then, because we were at the mall, we stopped at David’s Tea of course… I managed to refrain from buying any more tea (since I had just spent $30 on tea on Wednesday, oops!) but bought a new mesh ball for myself and one to include in my package to Nonna. Which, by the way, I can’t wait to send!

I also found a new phone case! It’s one of the “YAY CANADA” series in Apple stores, and it makes me smile. So my phone is all ready for Mexico too!

Then the spring snowstorm hit and I gave up on Calgary spring altogether. This is what we’re dealing with right now:

Mexico truly can’t come soon enough. I need some freaking sunshine.

We’re heading to Erin and Jesse’s today so that Thomas, Jesse (his BIL) and Aiden (his nephew) can finish building the Lego Death Star that Aiden got for Christmas this year. I hope the boys have fun, but I think Erin and I will have more fun with tea, Firefly and wine…

Calgary weather can be…fickle. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but oh my goodness this can get old sometimes.

It’s a full-on snowstorm and we’re trapped inside the house, though I’m not complaining; I have snoring cats, heat, coffee, and a wonderful boyfriend who helped me prepare a delicious salmon lunch. NOM.

It’s been a lazy kind of Sunday. Thanks to the snow, I want nothing to do with the outside world, and that includes getting dressed apparently. I may shower at some point, but I’m disinclined to make any promises.

It’s not how I pictured my weekend. I thought I’d be a lot more productive than pinning a million things, hanging out on Twitter, and playing WoW. But if that’s what I need to do to relax and unwind, then so be it. It’s been one of those months, and I still feel squarely in the middle of a self-indulgence phase.

Once we’re out of the white, I’m hoping I can get over to the gym this week to start that 5k training. I considered dropping out of the race in June, but that’s just postponing the inevitable. I don’t need to be excellent at everything, or rock the first time. I think a healthy goal for this first race is simply to finish. I want to hit the finish line and feel that rush of accomplishment. So there’s no sense in delaying that!

Braces are going well (you didn’t think I’d be able to post an update without mentioning them, did you?) — I got the brackets repaired on Friday, and so far no others have made a desperate bid for freedom from the wire. The Friday appointment turned out to be a bit of a gong show too. The woman assisting the orthodontist ended up forgetting to place my bottom wire back on after the bracket was glued; she only snapped the wire into that one bracket! As I was driving, I noticed something felt different, and then saw the rogue wire in the mirror. I ended up having to drive back and get her to snap the rest of the brackets back on.

She also told me I had a lot of saliva. …Um, thanks? I had no idea how to respond to that, especially since her hands were in my mouth (and spreading that saliva onto my face — thanks chick, at least you were wearing gloves!) so I told her I was part Great Dane and laughed it off.

Yesterday I went shopping with my friend Kaila and picked up Thomas’ anniversary present. He’s been known to occasionally pop by, so I won’t reveal what it is, but I’m fairly sure he’s going to love it. <3 I also spent some money on myself: $32 at Sephora. It’s not a lot, but it’s a start and it’s two things that were pure self-indulgence. Hand cream (and it smells AMAZING) and hair product. It felt good to do something like that for no particular reason, and knowing that I could afford it.
