Tag Archives: Weekend

it’s almost time

My trip to Mexico is just around the corner, and the excitement is about to bubble over. We (Erin and I) fly out of Calgary just after midnight on Thursday, and then we’ll be landing in Cancun around lunchtime.

In preparation for the trip, this weekend has been a whirlwind of chores. I ran up to a work event on Saturday, then prepared a dish and went to a coworker’s party in the evening. Today, I grocery shopped with Thomas, went to the gym with Kaila, picked up a suitcase from Erin for the trip, started laundry, cooked like a mad fiend (I have salads for the rest of the week for lunch, yum!) and started in on a bottle of red this evening.

Still a lot to do, followed by a well-earned hot shower, but it’s been a good day and evening! What I’m not looking forward to is the pile of work I have to complete before I go. It figures; the second a vacation is on the books is when the work starts coming in hard and fast.

In any case, I’m excited about the account we’re working on, and it’s the first time I could really take a leading role in one so it’s a double-win for me.

I’ve been neglecting my writing in all areas, and it’s hard to get going again. Everything feels fragmented and awkward when I put my fingers to the keyboard. Sentences don’t flow like they used to and it’s harder to start or know when to stop.

Having said that, I’m going to finish this entry here, and just vow to try it again and do a little better tomorrow. It’s all you can do, right?

Sunday Stealing: The Basically Obscure Meme

Today’s meme comes from Sunday Stealing :D

1: Do you notice a persons eye color?
I usually pick up on it, especially if they’re unusual or really bright.

2: White, milk, or dark chocolate mocha?
Eh. I’m not too keen on chocolate at all, but if I had to pick I guess I’d say milk chocolate.

3: If you could get a tattoo free, would you do it? what would it be?
Yep! I’d add to one of the two I already have. I’ve toyed with the idea of doing this before, but I don’t know what I’d do to add to it yet. But if I were to get a free tattoo, I’d hurry up and figure it out!

4: Did you grow up in a small or big town? Did you like it?
I was born in a huge city, grew up in a smaller (but still substantial) city, and now live in a city somewhere in between the two. I love cities and city life, and it’s where I belong. It’s nice to get away occasionally and find some solace in nature, but I think small towns and small town living would eventually suffocate me.

5: Your favorite adult as a child? (and not your parents, if they were your favorite)
Probably my cousin Kevin. He was just the coolest dude to me, and he loved to playfight with my brother and me. We didn’t see him often, so when we did it was a treat. Oh, and he also let me read his Calvin and Hobbes books when we went to my aunt and uncle’s place.

6: What kind of smoothie sounds really good right now?
Strawberry banana. Nom.

7: Most embarrassing moment from your elementary school years?
Probably when I got in trouble for playing my part in holding down a kid to punch him in the belly. Don’t worry, he kinda deserved it… That, or the time I wrote a song in second grade and went to sing it in music class, and my classmates laughed me out of the room.

8: Most embarrassing moment from your middle school years?
Middle school felt like one big embarrassing moment. But, if I picked one, probably when I went on the camping trip and my friend used our (very small) tent as Makeout Central and I had to sit on the other side and pretend I didn’t know what was going on. Ugh.

9: Most embarrassing moment from your high school years?
Admitting to a guy that I had a problem, and he told me it was no big deal, other people have told him that already too, and could I just get over it?

10: Have you ever fired anyone?
Nope.

11: Have you ever climbed a tree more than twenty feet off the ground?
Prrrrrrobably. I don’t judge height very well, but there were trees across the street from my aunt’s house that my brother and I used to like to climb.

12: Did you like swinging as a child? Do you still get excited when you see a swing set?
Yes, and YES. I love swinging. I love how your stomach drops when you get high enough!

13: If you could have any pet in the world, illegal or not, what would you get?
I think it’d be cool to have and hang out with a panda, but I think I’d still go with a pug.

14: What’s your favorite place to relax?
Home, on the couch or in bed. There’s no place like home, right?

15: What’s your most favorite part of your personality?
I like my intellect, and my sense of humour. I think that combined, they make up a pretty crucial part of me :)

16: Madonna or Lady Gaga? Neither? Both? Who cares?
Eh, who cares. I can appreciate the fact that they’re expressing themselves and are great role models, but the music doesn’t really appeal to me.

17: Have you ever watched the Superbowl all the way through?
I’m about to do that today! But I think I’ve only done so on a couple of other occasions.

18: Have you ever watched any major sporting event live?
I’ve been to a few hockey games, and an NFL game when I was little.

19: What’s the most delicious food you’ve ever eaten in your life?
My dad’s homemade chicken. I don’t know if it’s the recipe or the memories, but I really don’t think I could pick something tastier. But it’s off-limits now, as he uses Ritz crackers in the recipe :( I’ve managed to approximate the recipe with gluten-free breadcrumbs though, so that’s something.

20: Margarine or butter? Which did you grow up with?
Grew up with margarine, prefer butter.
