God Of Gamblers II is an action comedy from 1990, distributed by Golden Harvest. It was written and directed by commercially successful director, Wong Jin. It stars Stephen Chow, Andy Lau and Ng Man-Tat. In this film, Stephen Chow plays Sing, the “Saint Of Gamblers”. He is in search of the “God Of Gamblers” in order to become his disciple. He meets up with “The Knight of Gamblers” played by Andy Lau. Soon due to a sequence of events, The Saint of Gambling and the Knight Of Gambling must team up to defeat an imposter pretending to be The God Of Gambling. The success of the film led to a sequel tying this film and the previous film, All For The Winner, to the original film, God Of Gambling starring Chow Yun Fat.

Another Great Jing Production

Production on God of Gamblers II started when director Wong Jing saw Stephen Chow’s performance in All For The Winner. The two eventually released multiple films working together and established themselves as mainstays of the Chinese film industry. He started his career in the TVB television station in China. His big break came with the release of God Of Gambling starring Chow Yun Fat. The film broke Chinese Box Office records upon its release in 1989. His production company Wong Jing’s Workshop had produced over 175 films.

Andy Lau who plays The Knight Of Gambling is not just a commercially and critically successful film star, but also a renowned Cantonese pop star. He holds the Guinness world record for most awards won by a Cantonese pop start with 292 awards won between the 80’s and 2000. He has featured in 108 films in the last 20 years and in 2007 was awarded the Nielson Box Office Star of Asia award.

The Critically Acclaimed Ng Man-Tat

Ng Man-tat created a name for himself playing supporting roles in slap stick comedies with Stephen Chow. He also started his career with Stephen in the TVB television series, Final Combat in 1989. His break out role was in All For The Winner with Stephen Chow. Ng is still affectionately referred to as Uncle Tat in reference to his memorable role in the film. In recent years Ng has further flexed his acting muscle with more diverse roles in television. He featured in Lee Rock, Portland Street Blues and the Taiwanese series The Hospital. His role as Doctor Tang Guotai earned him the Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series at the 42nd Golden Bell Awards.

Stephen Chow Is Back Again

Stephen Chow plays Sing in God Of Gamblers II. He would become a director and writer in addition to his acting after the success of All For The Winner and God Of Gambling II. His biggest success was the internationally acclaimed, slapstick comedy films, Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer. Stephen has also crossed over into politics acting as a political advisor for the CPPCC. Stephen Chow’s film career began with the 1987 film, Final Justice that earned him a Taiwanese Golden Horse Award. He recently released The Mermaid in 2016 that so far is the 45th highest growing international film of all time.
